Self-Help Guides
These free handy guides are designed to help you deal with minor issues yourself e.g. bleeding a radiator or frozen pipes
Check Boiler Water Pressure
Loss of water pressure is common issues that arise with boilers. Low pressure is relatively easy to diagnose, as most boilers have a built-in pressure gauge. It’s possible to correct water pressure yourself. Always ensure that the central heating is turned off and that you allow sufficient time for it to cool down. If you do not know what you are turning under your boiler - then do not turn it!
My Boiler is not Working
Before calling a gas engineer to repair your broken boiler check these simple steps. They are all steps that you can carry out safely - you may not even need an engineer's visit, saving you time, money and inconvenience. Let’s face it, it’s a whole load of hassle when your heating stops working. It can happen at the worst of times - usually in the middle of winter when you have people staying over and it’s the coldest day of the year!
Take a Radiator off the Wall
Sometimes you may want to temporarily remove a radiator. You shouldn’t need to remove a radiator just to decorate behind it. You can normally paint behind the radiator with small paint roller with a long handle; you can normally cut slits in wallpaper and paper around the brackets. Having said that, removing a radiator can give a better finished result.
Frozen Condensate Pipes
Even the best loved boiler will struggle to function if its condensate pipe freezes. Luckily, it's not a big job to put things right if it does happen. This handy guide will help you get your boiler up and running quickly and easily. With NO or little cost and no need for an engineer.
Bleeding a Radiator
If your radiators are making noises or the temperature within them is inconsistent, the easiest fix and first port of call will be to bleed them. This is a relatively easy job that most people will be able to learn quickly.
